Impressive new manicure trick or lazy girl fantasy? Maybe a bit of both. Press on nails are nothing new to the beauty world. I remember watching my older sisters, cousins and aunts put their press on's on and thinking they were so glamorous. The early nineties were a confusing and influential period for me. Hairspray, shoulder pads and press on nails were the trends and I was a sponge.

Press on's sort of lost their steam after people complained about their nails being ruined or worse yet...ripped off. Once I got old enough to really get into manicures I was terrified of using fake nails in fear of losing my real ones. I opted for the salon gel or acrylic nails and later started to paint my own at home. However, over the years I have seen the press-on's in stores like Wal-Mart or Shoppers Drug Mart and mostly just glaceed over them. Then out of the blue, a whole whack of beauty bloggers/vloggers started talking about them. So obviously, me being the crazy beauty consumer that I am, I had to give them a go.

I had my doubts, and yes, I was fearful of their potential to rip off my frail brittle nails. But nonetheless I went for it and I was pleasantly surprised.

I picked up a pack of imPress Press-On Manicure Nail Covers at Wal-Mart for $7.46. I grabbed a pretty basic style as I wanted my opinion on them to be neutral and not influenced by a crazy design. I rather liked the colour I chose as it was a colour I would have painted my nails with on any given day.

The package comes with 24 nails in various sizes for you to fit your nails with. I found that I was in between sizes for the most part, but I managed to make it work with a smaller nail (They suggest this on their website as well). The application was super easy, requiring you to peel the plastic off the back to reveal a glue like substance on the back of the nail. You then must place the nail on top of yours and press down to secure it.

Now as this was my first time ever wearing press-on's I made a few mistakes. I'm sure I am not the only one to do this, so please read on.

First things first, make sure you place the press-on nail the right side up. They have a raised edge on one end of the press-on and it's suppose to go at the top of your nail. I accidentally put it at the base of my nail and it look really bad. The little raised edges are kind of ugly, so I figured I would file them down. If you do this, make sure you don't get file crazy as I it will mess up the press-on. Also, I sort of put my press-on's on a little crooked with my first hand.It wasn't super noticeable, but you might want to pay close attention to the angle you place them.

The next day I had some errands to run and unfortunately the press-on's were not sticking around. Here's the rundown how they fell off.

First Nail: I was brushing through my hair.
Second Nail: I was putting an box in my car
Third Nail: I was trying on clothing at a store in the mall

Because I was home for the first two nails that fell off I just replaced them with new ones. However, when I was out shopping, I was stuck walking around with one nail missing. I looked and felt rather ridiculous.

After all of that, I finally decided to remove them. It was pretty easy to do. I just picked at the edge of the press-on and eased it off my nail. Their website suggests that you use nail polish remover if you have an difficulties. But I found it to be an easy process. This was a nice surprise as my number one fear was the press-on's ripping my nails off. They actually didn't leave my nails in bad shape at all. They were perfectly fine.

Despite the nails falling off, I actually liked this product. I wouldn't wear them everyday, but on special occasions I think its a great alternative to gel or acrylic nails from the salon. For $7.46 a set. you really can't go wrong.

Let me know your thoughts!

Have you tried press-on nails? Do you have any horror stories with fake nails?
